The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) point out that someone needs a blood transfusion every 2 seconds.  According to Dr. Peter Marks, Director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, “[t]he COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented challenges to the U.S. blood supply.”

While it is crucial that people continue to donate blood, doing so safely is, of course, also important. People who donate blood should adhere to physical distancing policies when traveling outside, wear masks in areas where they are unable to keep 6 feet apart from other people, and frequently wash their hands to reduce their chances of catching or spreading the virus.

As Dr. Marks points out, blood donation centers are… highly skilled in infection control practices.  In Dr. Marks’ words, “[b]lood donation centers… are now taking additional social distancing precautions wherever possible, consistent with the President’s Coronavirus Guidelines for America.”

Now more than ever, it is important to save blood and save lives. That is exactly how BloodSTOP iX can help the medical profession: with power to control bleeding, and power to heal.  BloodSTOP iX can bring bleeding under control quickly in elective and routine surgeries, burns, trauma injuries, etc., saving lives, and relieving the strain on blood banks.

Reduced time in the operating room and in-patient hospital stay is an added benefit during the COVID-19 pandemic, both for the safety of patients and to keep hospital beds available.  Recent data from burn surgery shows BloodSTOP iX to be 8-10 times faster in bleeding control than standard treatment, with hospital stays about one third as long.
